Our client is hiring a visionary and driven General Manager to lead a long-standing Alberta-based spatial data and mapping organization. As a recognized leader in the geomatics space, our client manages and distributes essential spatial datasets used across Alberta’s infrastructure, energy, utility, and municipal sectors.
This is a unique opportunity for a strategic, people-first leader with deep industry expertise to oversee daily operations, mentor a high-performing team, and drive growth across an evolving data services portfolio.
Location: Calgary, AB – On-Site
Reports to: CEO
Travel: Monthly to Edmonton, occasional local travel for client meetings
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and inspire a small, collaborative team
- Build a positive, high-performance culture focused on accountability and growth
Strategic Growth & Market Expansion
- Identify and pursue new opportunities in GIS, data services, and mapping innovation
- Drive product development aligned with client needs in government and industry
- Build and sustain strong relationships with government stakeholders and clients across Alberta
Financial & Operational Oversight
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking
- Analyze sales data and customer metrics to improve results and support strategic decisions
- Report business outcomes and initiatives directly to executive leadership
Industry Excellence
- Apply your expertise in Alberta’s geomatics and survey data sector to align offerings with market needs
- Maintain best-in-class standards for spatial data accuracy, accessibility, and service quality
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- 5+ years of leadership experience in geomatics, GIS, surveying, or remote sensing
- Strong understanding of spatial data applications across infrastructure, utilities, energy, and government
- Background in business development, product innovation, or data sales
- Proven ability to lead and mentor teams, and foster a people-first work environment
- Hands-on experience with budgeting, financial oversight, and operational reporting
- Skilled at building relationships with public-sector and private stakeholders
- Excellent communicator with strong emotional intelligence and critical thinking
- Proficient in MS Office; experience with Hubspot or CRM tools is an asset
- CPHR, PMP, or GIS-related certifications are considered strong assets
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range of $140,000–$160,000 plus bonus potential
- 3–4 weeks vacation
- Health, dental, and vision benefits (cost-share model)
- $1,200/year Health Spending Account
- RRSP matching up to 9% after 1 year
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
- On-site role with career growth potential into a VP-level position
