We are representing a leading North American infrastructure and construction organization in their search for a strategic, forward-thinking Director of Finance. This newly created leadership role will support the financial oversight and performance of complex, large-scale civil infrastructure projects across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest United States.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in project-based accounting within the construction sector, a proven track record of developing high-performing finance teams, and the strategic foresight to navigate an evolving landscape with confidence and clarity.
Key Drivers Behind This Opportunity
- This is a newly established position created to support growth and complexity across the organization’s major projects group.
- The company has experienced significant expansion and is targeting an additional growth across U.S. markets.
- This role will support the delivery of multi-hundred-million-dollar infrastructure projects and help lead financial strategy for new bids and future development.
Role Scope and Responsibilities
- Regional responsibility spanning from Vancouver to Winnipeg, with oversight of projects throughout the U.S. Pacific Northwest, including California, Washington, and Alaska.
- Direct management of 6–7 Finance Managers/Senior Finance Managers, with indirect oversight of a broader team of ~20 finance professionals.
- Partner closely with executive and project leadership across multiple jurisdictions, supporting the financial delivery of:
- Large-scale dam and water infrastructure projects
- Highway and interchange improvement programs
- Bridge, tunnel, and heavy civil development initiatives
- Maintain close collaboration with Project Controls and Operations to ensure alignment between financial forecasting, execution, and reporting.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Strategic Leadership
- Brings a forward-thinking approach, staying attuned to both internal and external market dynamics (e.g., tariffs, regulatory shifts).
- Aligns financial strategies with project delivery goals and long-term business objectives.
- Proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and influence at the executive level.
Sector Experience
- Background in heavy civil construction (e.g., transportation, waterworks, infrastructure).
- Demonstrated expertise in project-based accounting with strong working knowledge of SAP.
- Prior experience supporting major capital projects valued at $500M+ is highly preferred.
People Leadership
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop finance teams.
- Demonstrated success in identifying and cultivating high-potential talent.
- Highly self-directed and accountable, with a collaborative and solutions-focused mindset.
Reporting Relationships
- Reports to the Vice President, Finance, responsible for Civil, Industrial, and Nuclear divisions.
- Partners closely with the Senior Vice President of Major Projects, who oversees the execution of major infrastructure initiatives across North America.
- Collaborates extensively with Project Controls, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure effective financial oversight and execution.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base Salary: $160,000 – $180,000 CAD
- Bonus: 10% – 25% Short-Term Incentive Plan
- Vacation: 4 weeks plus company-wide holiday shutdown
- Retirement: 5% employer-matched Defined Contribution Pension Plan (DCPP)
